Wellness Wednesday Challenge- Are You Up for a Fast?

By June 26, 2019 No Comments

Have you heard the buzz coming from Hollywood and into every reach of the health and wellness industry about intermittent fasting? Believe it or not, you may already be doing this, now you are about to realize that what you are doing is really good for your body and why.

You already naturally fast while you sleep, the process of taking a break from eating so your body is able to rest and repair.  When the body isn’t busy digesting, assimilating and eliminating food, it is able to cleanse and repair the cells, tissues and organs of your body. This is a critical step in enhancing health and wellbeing.

As short as 5 years ago, we called this form of fasting, skipping breakfast.

Over the past few years, research has shown that taking a longer break of 12-16 hours a day from ingesting food has tremendous health.  This process is referred to as “intermittent fasting” (aka IF) or “early time-restricted feeding,” which has been shown to:

  • Lower Insulin Levels
  • Enhance Recovery & Reduce Inflammation
  • Boost your metabolism
  • Increase Fat Burning
  • Help with Cellular Regeneration

When you eat for fewer hours a day, there’s a good chance you’re eating less overall, helping to lose or maintain a healthy weight if that’s a goal.

Pretty great right and chances are you are already doing it so this challenge should be an easy one for you.

Set your goal to fast for at least 12 hours.  That means have your last meal by 7:30 pm and eat your first meal at 7:30 am the next day.  Ready to go even longer for greater benefits? See if you can make it up to 16 hours. Be sure to post your results below.  Together we are helping each other live healthy, happy lives!
